Graham Stone
Graham is the newest member of HoneyGrass, and lives near Parry Sound, Ontario.
After hearing Earl Scrugg’s banjo playing on shows like the Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction as a kid, Graham had a love for the banjo sound. All through his teen years he listened to bluegrass at every opportunity and he developed a great love for the music. The opportunity to actually have the time to learn to play didn’t come until many years later when he decided it was “now or never”, and began taking lessons. As luck would have it, Ken Groomes, 5 Times Central Canadian Banjo Player of the year, lived close by and was kind and patient enough to give him lessons for almost 4 years and set him on the road to playing the banjo. He also set the bar very high. During that time he joined the Ontario band “Silverbirch” and played with them for 4 years. This was a valuable experience and exposed him to the festival scene in Ontario. A couple of years ago he met multi instrumentalist, Emory Lester, and began taking lessons from him also. So now, playing with HoneyGrass, he is looking forward to the challenges of learning a lot of new tunes, and playing with a great group of musicians. It’s going to be Good!!!
